OUR Governing Body

School governing bodies are responsible for working with the school to ensure that it delivers a good quality education. Together with the headteacher, who is responsible for day-to-day management, they set the school's aims and policies.

Our Earlsmead Governors are a group of elected representatives chosen by the parents, the Local Authority, the school teaching staff and the governing body. These people are willing to devote their time, enthusiasm and skill to governing the school.

Andrew Bethell: Chair of Governors, Chair of the Children's Committee

I have been a governor at Earlsmead School for six years and I now consider myself part of the Earlsmead family. I am retired but during my career, I was a secondary teacher in Hackney, a television producer and most recently worked on Teachers TV, the television channel supporting teachers on all aspects of education, sadly no longer broadcasting.

I am proud of the fact that, with the active support of governors, Earlsmead has made great progress and is going from strength to strength. As Chair of the Children's Committee, I take a particular interest in making sure that our children are progressing in their learning and that they are safe and well looked after. Recently I have had a great time working with Year Six to make a video for their final assembly.

Susan Moyse: Local Authority Governor

I've been a governor at Earlsmead for over 20 years - I love the family atmosphere in the school. I live locally and have two children - now at secondary school and at university. I've worked in a number of London boroughs, always in education, usually supporting school governors. I currently chair the Resources Committee at Earlsmead and we're working to balance the needs of the children with the available funds.

I have been a governor at Earlsmead for more than 15 years, and during that time have helped to organise the annual school fair. I am very engaged with the school and all its activities.

I am a member of the Resources Committee and aim to bring my experience as business woman and entrepreneur to getting good value in negotiating service provision.

Breda Maynard: Co-opted Governor

I live locally and was co-opted as a governor nearly 6 years ago. During that time I have seen many changes, to staff, administration and pupil achievement. I feel immensely proud of the progress the school is making and the excellent education being provided to pupils at Earlsmead School.

I am an Education and Social Care Lawyer with particular interest in SEN, Exclusion and School Governance. I am the Link governor for Safeguarding and Inclusion and a member of the Children’s committee.

Errol Boye: Parent Governor

I have lived locally in Tottenham for over 40 years. My two eldest children attended Earlsmead School and my youngest daughter currently attends the school.

Professionally, I have over 20 years of experience working within a number of London boroughs delivering services to vulnerable children, young people and adults.

I am extremely proud to be joining the school as a parent governor and I am really looking forward to making a positive contribution.

Judith Johnson: Co-opted Governor

I live locally and my three children attended Earlsmead School. Previously, I was a parent governor and now I am a co-opted governor. I am a Secondary Teacher of English with over 20 years of experience in education. As an education consultant, I have worked in Primary, Secondary and Further Education settings.

I am the Link governor for Human Resources (HR), Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and Staff wellbeing, in which I have expertise. I am looking forward to working alongside all stakeholders and making a positive contribution to the school.

Yvonne Thomas: Associate Member

I am one of the new(er) Governors at Earlsmead. I am a Science teacher in a North London Secondary School. This provides me with great insight into a different side of Education, very much valued by our board of governors. In turn I am learning about life in Primary Schools, increasing my awareness of the challenges of transition children face as they progress through the system.

I am link governor for the STEM subjects (maths and science) and will be working to inspire our children and staff in these exciting subjects.

Yaqub Begh: Parent Governor

I am passionate about the welfare of children, the children of today are the adults of tomorrow and we need to make sure our children are given the right mechanisms and tools to achieve their fullest abilities and grow into confident, educated responsible adults.
I have lived in Haringey my whole life, in the '90s we moved into the Seven Sisters ward and attended my formative education in Haringey. My three children attended Earlsmead School, and for many years I did the school runs.

I have expertise in retail management, marketing, and local government, I was hoping I could bring my experience and support our great school in these challenging times of governmental cuts. I am greatly humbled to be given this opportunity to be a parent governor, I always look forward to working with stakeholders to achieve the common goal of a positive outcome.

Corinne Roberts: Associate Member

I am a new parent governor. I am the 'Special Educational Needs' (SEN) link governor, plus the 'Extra-Curricular and Creative' link governor and sit on the Children's Committee. I have over 25 years of working professionally with children, young people and vulnerable adults experiencing a broad range of learning and disability needs. I currently work part-time with two jobs: supporting adolescents and young adults with learning and mental health difficulties in college; plus supporting families who are experiencing safeguarding issues.

I have two children in the school, and generally I am very pleased at how well the school has been working to improve its results. Having been involved with the parents' organisation 'Fair Funding for All Schools' campaign I am aware of the challenges schools currently face in terms of funding and am interested in how we can build on our extra-curriculum activities with our limited resources.

Michele Eastmond: Associate Member

I am truly honoured to serve as a governor and work with an amazing group of individuals to collectively do the best we can for the school. I have a long history of community and social engagement stemming from work across the landscape of my original home, Barbados, where I spearheaded many initiatives for children of primary and secondary school age through my membership/association with the Kiwanis club.

My eclectic career path which has spanned work in the investment, finance, transport, housing and food retail industries has allowed me to develop and fine tune key skills and attributes that I know will be well suited to helping me to be of service.

Hina Shah: Headteacher

I am delighted to be the Head of a hard working team of dedicated staff and governors who share my belief that school should be a safe and happy place where pupils are inspired and motivated to learn and are able to develop physically, emotionally, socially and creatively. I am proud that we are an inclusive school and have high aspirations for every single pupil and a commitment to working in partnership with families so that pupils leave us well prepared and excited about the next stage of what I hope is a lifelong love of learning.
