KS2 Sports Day - Not a spot of rain!!!

Well done to everyone for making KS2 sports day an action-packed and fun-filled success!

The weather was perfect for a whole day of fun and activity in Markfield Park. A huge well done and thank you to all the children in KS2. You all showed such great sportsmanship and gave endless encouragement to each other throughout the day.

The hard work, effort and enthusiasm from all Earlsmead staff and parent volunteers ensured the day ran smoothly.

Thank you to all parents and families for joining us and joining in too. It’s always a highlight of sports day for the children seeing teachers, mums, dads, aunties, uncles taking part in the races.

KS2 were able to take part in their sprinting finals in the afternoon.

Here are our winners:

Sports for Schools Fun Fitness Circuit Day

What an amazing and action packed morning we all had today!!!

Nathan Fox, the Team GB triple jump athlete and Omar the Sportivater made sure that we started our day with some fun and fitness.

All of our enthusiastic children from Reception to Year 6 and our supportive staff took part in the Fun Fitness Circuits. From the minute they entered the hall to the moment they left, everyone was fully involved doing star jumps, spotty dog, leg thrusts and push ups.
Everyone gave it 100% in both effort and attitude in order to complete all 4 elements of the full circuit.

After an energetic couple of hours Nathan and Omar spoke to everyone in an assembly. Nathan explained how important this weekend is for him. He will be competing in the British Championships in Birmingham to try and secure one of two places in Team GB for the upcoming World Athletics Championships at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford this August.
To wish him well on his way and will him to win, everyone in the assembly chanted NATHAN! NATHAN! NATHAN! as loudly as they could. He had inspired and encouraged us throughout the morning and we wanted to inspire and encourage him too.

Coverage of the British Championships will be on BBC1 on Saturday at 4:00 pm. Make sure you're all watching and supporting!!

Don't forget to return all sponsorship money next week. Money collected will go towards new PE equipment for our school and a percentage of all money collected will also go to the Sports for Schools charity.

Once again we'd like to thank the Earlsmead families and friends for their ongoing support.
Well done for all the money collected so far, but keep it coming in!!

Key Stage 1 Sports Day

Many thanks to all of the parents, families and friends who came to Markfield Park this morning to support their children at the Reception and KS1 Sports Day. It was lots of fun and everyone had a really great time.

A huge well done to all the children for taking part. Thank you to all of the Earlsmead staff and the parent volunteers from the reception classes.

A big soggy thank you to those parents/carers who helped tidy away the equipment in the middle of the heavy rain shower we got caught in.
We were soaked but it didn't dampen anyone's spirits!!

We hope to see you at the KS2 Sports Day on Friday.

Green for Grenfell

Dear Parents/Carers,

As you will know from watching the news, the residents of Grenfell Tower in West London were devastated by a horrific fire that ripped through their homes last week.

As you can imagine they’ve lost everything, so we want to raise much needed funds and support them however we can.

On Friday we would like our children to wear ‘Green for Grenfell’. Children can wear items of clothing that are green or have green in them and bring a donation of £1.

If it continues to be hot and sunny, please make sure the clothes the children wear are suitable; no vest tops exposing shoulders.  If children wear shorts, please ensure sun-cream has been applied before coming to school.

Many thanks for your ongoing support.

Sport for Schools

We’re very excited to be welcoming GB Triple Jumper Nathan Fox to the school on Wednesday, 28th June. Nathan has been representing Great Britain Since 2008 winning national and international championships along the way. Nathan is currently ranked 2nd in Great Britain and competed at the 2014 Commonwealth Games after jumping a personal best at this year’s National indoor championships to qualify.

Nathan will be leading a sponsored fitness circuit with all pupils, and will follow-up with a talk and question and answer assembly session. The aim of the event is to inspire the pupils to take up sport generally, but just as importantly to encourage them to discover and then pursue their passion in life.

Attached is a sponsorship form for your child to use in order to help raise money for the event.

You can also sponsor your child by following the link below to our very own online fundraising page:

www.sportsforschools.org/event/N603

As the sponsorship form and online sponsorship page explain, much of the money that is raised will be used to buy sports equipment for our school, while also supporting GB athletes and Paralympic athletes.

Please ensure that sponsorship forms and money are returned to the school office on or before Wednesday, 5th July at the latest.

Please also make sure that your child/children come to school on the event day with their PE Kits!

Thank you in anticipation of creating a terrific and memorable event.

Are you good at art, music, dance or cooking? We want you!

Ramadan celebrations

To celebrate the start of the Islamic celebration of Ramadan, we had a special guest, the Imam Sabir from the Whiteman Road Mosque, who spoke to us about Ramadan and why it is so important to Muslims. He also taught us about the 5 Pillars of Islam, with Ramadan being the fourth pillar.

Later on we had a special Ramadan lunch, with samosas, chicken, rice and ice cream with chocolate sauce, yum!

Year 5 and 6 Planting and Growing Workshop

On Friday 12th May some of our Year 5 and 6 Eco-Club children took part in the second ‘Planting and Growing Workshop’ at the London Grown, Pasteur Gardens growing site.

We enjoyed exploring the wooded area surrounding the site, continued to plant some of our seedlings and made our own scarecrows to keep the wildlife away.

We are delighted to be able to continue working under the expert direction and guidance of Simon and Dunya from Chicken Town who are providing this excellent programme of gardening opportunities for our children.

Win Tickets to the World Athletics Championships

As you might already know the World Athletics and World Para Athletics Championships are taking place at the London Stadium at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford this summer.

We are extremely excited to let you know we have been able to get some tickets for this year’s World Para Athletics Championships.

The tickets are very limited so in order to allocate them to interested families as fairly as we can, we will be setting up a raffle application system. In order to take part in the raffle and to have a chance of winning tickets you will need to buy a raffle application for £2.

We have limited tickets available for two 7:00pm evening sessions.

Session 1: Monday 17th July

Session 2: Wednesday 19th July

You’ll be able to choose the session you’d prefer to attend and win up to a maximum of 4 tickets per family (at least 1 adult ticket) with one raffle application!!! Children will not be admitted into the stadium if they are not accompanied by an adult.

Letters with the £2 raffle application on the bottom will be given out by your child’s class teacher in the next few weeks.

If you have any questions or queries, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Many thanks

E-safety message: Roblox

We are issuing a warning about the popular gaming app called Roblox. This follows a concern that some children at this school have been viewing inappropriate content online whilst at home.

Roblox is a game that allows users to create games and share them with their friends in a virtual massively multiplayer world. The game is aimed at children between 8 and 12 years old and is generally a safe place to play but what makes it potentially dangerous is the fact that it is very easy to connect with strangers, chat online through the app and share inappropriate content. Roblox have created a parents’ guide which explains how to change the security settings and block users corp.roblox.com/parents. Please make sure your children are using the game responsibly.

We live in an exciting age digital technology wise but must put the safety of our children first. E-safety and safe use of the internet is something that we place at the heart of our school curriculum. More information can be found by clicking on the e-safety page on our school website earlsmead.haringey.sch.uk/internet-safety.

As always we recommend you keep an open dialogue with your children about the websites and applications they use online, and if needs be ask them to no longer use it, explaining to them the potential dangers. If you have any concerns around other games and apps that your child uses at home please come in and talk to us about them.
